Reolink’s latest Altas PT Ultra marks the company’s debut in battery-operated security cameras that can record continuously throughout the day. It operates without needing a power source, allowing for nearly any installation location. Additionally, it stores 4K video on a microSD card rather than in the cloud, which minimizes security vulnerabilities and eliminates subscription costs.

Numerous battery-operated security cameras are currently available that simplify the setup process; however, they are constrained by their small batteries, which can only capture footage for a day before requiring a recharge.

The Reolink Altas PT Ultra addresses this issue with its integrated 20,000mAh battery, which the company claims can support recording for 12 hours daily for up to eight days, or four days of continuous, round-the-clock recording.

Needing to recharge the camera weekly diminishes some of the benefits of its battery-operated design. However, with the help of desktop and mobile applications, the Altas PT Ultra can be configured to record video only when its passive infrared sensor detects movement or according to a predetermined schedule, thereby prolonging its battery lifespan. According to Reolink, when operating in “standard working mode,” the camera can last as long as 16 months on a single charge.

For users with higher recording requirements, Reolink offers an additional six-watt solar panel accessory that can be installed close to the camera. According to the company, a 10-minute charge from this solar panel can energize the camera for a full day, while a complete day of charging may prolong the battery life to 120 days, though this varies based on the features being utilized.

The video is recorded in 4K resolution at 15 frames per second using a wide-angle lens. The Altas PT Ultra is capable of rotating its camera 355 degrees horizontally and tilting it 90 degrees vertically, enabling it to follow and maintain focus on moving subjects while recording.

Additionally, it offers full-color night vision, two-way audio with an integrated speaker and microphone, and compatibility with Wi-Fi 6, which permits streaming footage from a 512GB microSD card over a wireless connection.

Reolink has introduced its inaugural battery-operated smart doorbell. Similar to the Altas PT Ultra security camera, it records video locally onto a microSD card with a capacity of up to 256GB, eliminating the need for subscription fees for cloud storage of recordings.

The setup does not necessitate any wires; however, the doorbell can be linked to wiring for a steady power source or to integrate with current door chimes. According to the manufacturer, a fully charged 7,000mAh battery in the doorbell can last for about five months with “standard use.” Nevertheless, if you live in a bustling area where motion detection recordings are frequently activated, the battery life may be considerably shorter.

The video is captured in 2K resolution at 15 frames per second, presented in a perfectly square aspect ratio. This ensures that the doorbell’s wide-angle lens can record visitors from head to toe, as well as any packages left on the front porch. Additionally, it features two-way audio capabilities with a built-in speaker and microphone, along with Wi-Fi connectivity for streaming video to both desktop and mobile applications.
