Report states that Apple is considering producing iPhone 16 Pro models in India for the first time, with plans for them to be available on launch day.
The potential release of iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max later this year may mark the first time ‘Pro’ iPhone models are produced in India.
According to a report, Apple is set to produce iPhone 16 Pro models in India when they are initially released. The phones, which will be labeled as ‘Made in India’, are expected to be up for sale on the same day as the global launch. To make this happen, Apple is said to be teaming up with current iPhone manufacturers in the region. This news follows earlier speculation that Apple was interested in producing iPhone batteries in India and had requested local partners to establish production facilities.
Apple’s decision to produce iPhones in India is seen as a strategic move to reduce production costs, as well as to tap into the growing Indian smartphone market. The country is one of the largest smartphone markets in the world, with a rapidly expanding middle class and increasing demand for high-end tech products. By manufacturing iPhones in India, Apple will also be able to comply with local regulations which require foreign companies to produce a certain percentage of their products locally in order to sell in the country.
The move is also expected to create job opportunities and boost the Indian economy. It could potentially attract other major tech companies to set up manufacturing facilities in India as well, further strengthening the country’s position as a global hub for technology production.
iPhone 16 Pro Models manufactured in India
As per a MoneyControl report, Apple is considering expanding its iPhone manufacturing sites, which are currently mainly in China with partners like Foxconn, Pegatron, and Wistron. This move could result in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, rumored to debut this year, being the first ‘Pro’ iPhone models produced in India.
It is rumored that Apple is contemplating this step to ensure that the iPhone 16 Pro models are accessible in the region following their release. Sources who are acquainted with the situation stated that Foxconn, known for its manufacturing plant in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, will initiate the new product introduction process, which involves various stages from idea generation to final manufacturing. Once launched, the iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to begin mass production.
The tech company headquartered in Cupertino has been gradually increasing its production facilities in the country. This initiative began with the first generation of the iPhone SE in 2017. Over the years, the range of models has grown to include the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14, which are now being manufactured in India. However, production of these models did not start until several months after their initial release.

Apple made a significant change by introducing the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus, both of which are produced in India. If Apple’s new plan is realized, it would be the first time that Apple manufactures its ‘Pro’ iPhone models in a country other than China.
