What are the Best Wireless Earbuds  in terms of sound quality?

If you’re still relying on wired earbuds, consider this your cue to make an upgrade.

Best Wireless Earbuds of 2024

From binge-watching shows to exercising to business calls, having a reliable set of wireless earbuds has become a necessity in today’s world. With almost two decades of experience testing audio equipment, I’ve developed the ability to distinguish between numerous quality earbuds and the top-performing wireless options, such as the latest Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4, Bowers & Wilkins PI7 S2, Sony WF-1000XM5, and Apple’s AirPods Pro 2.

The dimensions and fit play a significant role in audio quality, which can be compromised if a proper fit isn’t achieved. Many of the highest-quality earbuds are often larger and may not suit every ear shape.

To ensure the best sound experience—especially regarding bass response—it’s essential to achieve a snug seal. Therefore, selecting a pair of earbuds that conform well to your ears is a key component in achieving superior sound quality.

I have thoroughly tested all the earbuds included in this list and have extensively reviewed several of them. I will refresh these selections as new high-quality earbuds become available.

Best Wireless Earbuds for noise cancelling

Bose New Quietcomfort Ultra Wireless Noise Cancelling in Ear Earbuds

Although the QC Ultra Earbuds don’t represent a significant improvement over Bose’s outstanding QC Earbuds 2 released in 2022, they do offer some enhancements. They are designed to fit comfortably in most ears and provide exceptional noise cancellation, potentially the best available.

A natural-sounding transparency mode, enhanced by a new ActiveSense feature, activates some noise cancellation if the surrounding noise becomes too loud (similar to the Adaptive Audio feature found in AirPods Pro). Additionally, the sound quality is slightly improved overall, with increased clarity, and the new Immersive Audio feature expands the audio experience.

EarFun Air Pro 3

Earfun has released a range of wireless earbuds in recent years, all sharing a key characteristic: they offer excellent value, especially with regular discounts. The Earfun Air Pro 3 earbuds are equipped with the latest Qualcomm QCC3071 system-on-a-chip, featuring AptX Adaptive for Android and other compatible devices that utilize the new LE Audio standard and LC3 audio codec, which outperforms the SBC codec (they also support AAC for Apple devices).

Sony Best Earbuds

Sony WF-1000XM5

When Sony released its WF-1000XM4 earbuds in 2021, Although they are outstanding, we had a few reservations—specifically, their size and compatibility with certain ear shapes.

It seems that Sony took this feedback into consideration while developing the next-generation WF-1000XM5 flagship noise-canceling earbuds. The XM5s are not only more compact but also deliver enhanced performance in nearly every aspect, including superior noise cancellation, sound quality, and voice calling. Do the XM5s achieve perfection?

Bowers & Wilkins – Pi7 S2 True Wireless Noise Cancelling In-Ear Earbuds

Bowers & Wilkins has enhanced its exceptional PI7 noise-canceling earbuds. The updated S2 version features an improved battery life and Bluetooth connectivity, extending up to 25 meters (twice the previous distance).

Furthermore, the earbuds now sync seamlessly with the new Bowers & Wilkins Music app for both iOS and Android, offering a significantly better setup process.

Although they don’t represent a significant improvement over their predecessors, the PI7 S2s, equipped with a dual-driver configuration, rank among the finest true wireless earbuds in terms of sound quality.

On the other hand, the more budget-friendly PI5 S2s, which utilize a single-driver setup, do not deliver the same level of audio performance.

Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4

Each time a new version of the Momentum True Wireless earbuds is released, I inevitably think, “Wow, these sound impressive.” The audio quality has consistently been the standout feature of the MTWs, and this continues to hold true with the fourth generation.

There have been some slight enhancements in various aspects, especially regarding the noise-canceling capabilities and the steady, interruption-free Bluetooth link I experienced with my phone.

However, the quality of voice calls could use improvement, and I find it somewhat disappointing that these earbuds don’t represent a more significant advancement over the previous model. Nonetheless, the Momentum True Wireless 4 are outstanding earbuds that I can confidently recommend.

Technics Premium Hi-Fi True Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds with Advanced Noise Cancelling (Technics EAH-AZ80)

When spending $300 on earbuds, you should anticipate high quality—though it is still a significant amount for headphones, especially considering many are prepared to spend over $450 for products like Apple’s AirPods Max.

In general, Panasonic has successfully designed a well-rounded pair of earbuds that provide a better fit, excellent sound quality, impressive noise cancellation, and a strong array of features.

The voice-calling features are satisfactory but don’t fully meet expectations at this time. We hope to see some firmware updates that enhance the calling experience in louder settings.

Nonetheless, as long as they are comfortable for your ears, the Technics EAH-AZ80 ranks among the top wireless earbuds available today.

Best Wireless Earbuds ( Apple Noise canceling wireless earbuds)

Apple Airpods Pro 2 wireless ear buds with usb c charging up to 2x more active noise cancelling

The AirPods Pro (2nd generation) feature Apple’s latest H2 chip, which provides enhanced processing capabilities while being more power efficient, as stated by Apple.

This new chip, along with advanced low-distortion drivers, enhances audio quality with greater clarity and depth. Noise cancellation has also seen improvements; Apple claims that the latest AirPods offer “double” the noise canceling effectiveness of the original AirPods Pro.

Furthermore, the new model boasts an additional hour of battery life, increasing usage from five to six hours with noise cancellation activated. Additionally, the charging case includes a speaker that emits a sound to help locate your earbuds through the Find My app, in case they decide to go missing.

Best Wireless Earbuds (Creative Aurvana Ace 2)

Recently, there has been a buzz surrounding solid-state semiconductor Micro-Electromechanical System (MEMS) speakers, with xMEMS drivers featured in Creative Labs’ Aurvana Ace ($130) and Ace 2 earbuds ($150).

The newer Ace 2 offers compatibility with Qualcomm’s AptX Lossless audio codec, which is supported by only a limited number of devices. Otherwise, the two models are nearly indistinguishable apart from their color variations.

While the Ace 2 lacks certain features like ear-detection sensors commonly found in earbuds within this price range, they deliver impressive sound quality (especially with a snug fit), characterized by well-defined bass that is warm and a sound profile that is both detailed and accurate.

Adjusting the equalizer settings in the companion app can help tailor the audio to your preferences. I found the adaptive noise cancellation to be decent, although not outstanding, and the performance for voice calls was similar.

In general, the earbuds feature a thoughtful design and include several striking design aspects that distinguish them from other stemmed earbuds. They possess an IPX5 splash resistance rating, provide up to 6 hours of battery life per charge at moderate volume, and support wireless charging. Given their price, they offer excellent value, especially in terms of audio quality.
